I am having problems getting vias to connect to a plane (copper pour dedicated layer).
I have a gnd plane and I start routing my signal on the top later, click to set the 1st point, hit '2' to change to my layer '2' which is the gnd layer (via appears where I want it), then rclick->end and my via disappears. In order to get a via to stay I need to route a small stub onto the plane, which while doable isn't practical for dense boards.

As a feature suggestion it would be nice for an "end on via" check box somewhere when you manual route as well as a click modifier to "end" (shift/alt/ctl) click so you can avoid using rclick and then hitting the menu.

Use static vias instead of trace vias. There is "Place static via" button on elements panel. There vias aren't disappeared until you delete them. Ther also aren't moved themselves if you edit traces.
You can also use fanout feature. It creates static via(s) and short trace from pad(s) to the via(s).

Via disappear maybe because of your display color. Is this a 4 layer design? If yes, you can end the via directly even without specifying the layer.
