The autorouter (grid router) hangs during the first pass at roughly the 80% point. I've tried every combination of settings I can think of. I've routed 2 other projects with no problem. I've partially routed the board manually and locked the traces before starting. I also tried autorouting the board with no manual routes and it still hangs.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I was able to route the board using the shape based autorouter, with a few traces I had to complete. Alex told me the shape based router is the preferred function, I had it backwards in my head!! But, it would be nice to know what causes the grid router to hang up (stops responding).

Grid router doesn't hang the program, but it works so slowly on large boards that it looks like the program doesn't responding. We saw it earlier when we had grid router only. Now we suggest to use the faster shape router.
