Hi I would like to find out if anyone can offer any advice on generating plot files for a plotter (Roland dxy1200).
I am having to use Kicad and I find it such an award program to use. I would much prefer using Diptrace with which I am much more familiar.

Long ago when I used HPGL plot files, I found that there were software utilities that will convert some other formats to HPGL. I suppose that the Gerber output of Diptrace would be the logical starting place for an HPGL file, assuming you want it for the board itself, not the schematic. If that's the case, check out ViewMate from Pentalogix; there's a free version with limited capabilities, but I believe the purchased version can export to HPGL. (The free version can import from HPGL as well as Gerber and a few others.)

For plotting the schematic, perhaps you can export the Diptrace schematic to DFX and use a mechanical cad program to output that to the plotter; seems like mechanical cad programs should support HPGL output.

Caveat: I haven't tried any of this with Diptrace...I can just sympathize since I did similar things in the past with other programs. You'll most likely have to experiment some...

I have found a suitable solution and perhaps it may help others.
I use evaluation version of winline classic 8.
After the plot has completed it goes on to draw a large winline watermark across the page I simply hit the off button.
Then go to printer properties and cancel all documents, works well.
Regards
Maurice.
