Depending on the project I like to use two different symbols for capaciotrs, the curved or the straight, I noticed in teh Discrete SMD library all caps ( or at least most) use teh curved symbol. I generally use that symbol with polarized caps, at the present I added two parts to the caps and have each part assigned to teh same patteren pins.

After i grag the compont onto the schematic I delete the symbol (part) I do not want to use. Then correct the ref designator.

Is there a way to have multiple parts assigned to a pattern and you simply select which symbol you want as you place it onto the schematic?

Thanks
Tim C.

Hello Tim,

This is not the best way of utilizing multi-part components. They are usually needed to split a large component to several smaller parts.
I suggest to create two different components for one capacitor. Both components will have different symbols but the same attached pattern.
Please let me know if you have further questions.
