Re: Via to Ground Plane

My previous CAD updated the planes automatically and so a manual intervention never crossed my mind. I think it was mentioned here a while ago that they were working on some form of auto-update for pours. But I guess that even with the recent improvements (which are substantial), the performance wa...

Reusable sub-schematics

I wanted to be sure this issue appeared here in the feature requests area as well. The request is for DipTrace to support linking to subschematics so that common assemblies can be reused in several larger-scale designs. A really robust implementation of subschematics would be a significant design ch...

Re: Library search sucks and here's why

I really don't understand the slowness of library searches. This isn't a new issue, but I'm surprised to see that the library UI has been completely revamped without addressing this most fundamental issue.

Re: How do I add a non signal layer to a footprint pattern?

You can use the assembly (Assy) layers for this if you're not already using them.

Re: User configurable shortcut keys

As a stopgap, you might take a look at AutoHotKey. It's a bit twiddly to set up but very powerful.

Re: New to PCB

I would strongly suggest checking out OSH Park , SeeedStudio, or some similar service appropriate for your geographic region for PCB prototyping. The boards are dirt cheap (in the case of OSH Park, $5/square inch for 3 copies), plus you get production-quality boards with silkscreen and solder mask o...

Re: How to prepare a PCB.. Some doubts

You can find the data sheet for the AT89C51 series here . Packaging information is usually at the end, in this case, on page 15. Any part with a 40P6 case should be the same from DipTrace's perspective, so the AT89C51-12PI part you picked should work. I suspect that the reason that part doesn't seem...

Re: SOIC-8 pattern with connected pins and heatsink

What's the recommended/lead practice approach to follow given that pins 5-8 and pins 1-3 of SOIC-8 are connected? Should I create one large pad that would accommodate the pins 5-8 and the heatsink at once? I don't think there is really a perfect solution for this in DipTrace, which is a shame becau...

Re: How to I Tab route my boards?

More concisely, you have to follow your fab's instructions for this kind of thing. From DipTrace's perspective, you're just drawing arbitrary graphics on some layer. It's up to you and the fab to determine what layer and what marks.
