Re: Scanned Circuits

What I have learned is to really go through the trouble of building libraries for every component I use. That includes every resistor and capacitor. The thing is, after you finish the schematics, finish the layout, and order blank PCBs, you have to order components and build the whole thing. I have ...

Re: pattern origin vs. pick and place (new user)

When you design a SMD footprint, just put the footprint origin in the center. Silk screen cannot be trusted, especially for polarized components like diodes. Pads aren't reliable either, because pin 1 may be purposely made longer.

Small outline (SOT) footprint library

A collection of small outline component footprints. The pads are a little bigger than what's recommended by the "Library Expert Solder Joint Goal Tables" as published by PCB Libraries on October 2018. Refer to compatibility table to see a mapping of manufacturer's components to this librar...

Library for 465 D-shaped pads

Here is a collection of 465 D-shaped pads.

The pattern naming convention is "d" + (length * 100) + "_" + (width * 100). For example, d98_23 means the pad is 0.98mm horizontally and 0.23mm vertically.

Library of 8,450 rounded rectangular pads

Here is a collection of rounded rectangular pads. The pattern naming convention is "r" + (length * 100) + "_" + (width * 100). For example, r1580_700 means the pad is 1.58mm horizontally and 0.7mm vertically. The pad length ranges from 0.4mm to 2.2mm. The pad width ranges from 1/...

Compress on library export

It seems, when you delete something (a line, or a pad) while working on a pattern, DipTrace will just mark the item as deleted. So when you export the library to .ASC format, you get a lot of junk in it. Please have an option to compress the library to remove all that junk.

Re: Pattern editor bring to front/back

What I do is group all paste in one layer, mask in one layer, etc. Set grid to a large value (e.g. 1mm). Select a layer and move it by 1 grid unit to see what it looks like. Move it back when I'm done.

Re: My footprint library - rounded pads

Here is a library of 40-something pads (mostly rounded rectangular, some D-pad and some E-pad).

I need to redo all of my patterns... **sigh**

Re: Same Net Clearances (SMD to Drill)

You are probably asking for trouble by placing a via very close to a pad. I use 0.3mm vias, which are pretty small (if I go smaller, the fab house will charge extra), and half the time the vias aren't closed.

Re: Ground Planes

Possible reasons of DRC error: The net class of your GND has a clearance set to a value smaller than what's in your DRC You have multiple net classes, each with a different clearance value. One of these net classes has "Use Clearance in DRC" checked. On your copper pour, you set the cleara...
