Re: Thermal pad with no electrical connection

At my normal job (non Diptrace), thermal pads are normally assigned as pins, as are mounting pins, SMT hold-downs, etc. that are not counted as pins by connector mfgrs. I would hope that Diptrace would handle it properly if you do create it as a pin and leave it as a no connect. The pin should be vi...

Understanding net ports and problems with them

So, we use net ports for busses to "hold" reference to all nets on a bus. But, a power or ground symbol is also a net port. This is a big problem when it comes to checking a netlist before layout or for possible processing of the netlist by some application. If I place a GND symbol, the net takes on...

Re: Male USB type A through-hole connector 48037-0001

Have a look at USB-2.5/2H4 in the CONN_IO library. It is a thru hole USB.

The connector names appear to contain:

H (horizontal), V (vertical), number of mtg holes and number of pins.

Re: Easier way to replace footprints in layout mode?

The footprint libraries are .lib files in the program files folder under DipTrace.

Thankfully most parts have short enough names to quickly type into the search box. We use long, structured names for footprints at work. Unfortunately, they become un-readable and difficult to read.

Move traces as a group if selected as a group

It would be very useful if multiple traces that have been selected as a group could be moved as a group. When you select multiple traces, say a diff pair for instance, and then click on one of those to move the select group, only the trace that has been clicked on moves. A work around that I think I...

Differential pair trick

I hope Alex and his associates can add support for differential pairs sometime soon. Until then, here's a trick I used this evening: 1. set the grid to an integral fraction of the diff pair spacing you need and fine enough to land on the pads of the IC or connector you're terminating on. That was ea...

Re: Aligning net names

Leave the grid turned on and change it to 1/4 of what it was (approximately).

Just a few clicks of the mouse wheel to zoom in and you can now drag the names into good alignment, accuracy limited only by your grid size.

Create concave SMT pin or convert shape to pin?

Some small SMT connectors for RF use pads that have concave shape. For instance, 1 center pad for the coax pin and 2 pads for the feet. These 2 pads are rectangles with part of a circle cut away to control the distance to the center pin. What would be the easiest way to create this? **deleted** ADDE...

Re: Signal Port

Alex, I'm from Pads and Cadence background and am interested in a related item. It would be very nice if there were simple "off page" symbols. These are simple left pointing, right pointing or not pointing at all (small vertical tick mark) to end a wire. The net name is always visible and editing is...
