Placing symbols

I recently posted a question about placing the registered trademark symbol ("R" in a circle) on the silkscreen layer: https://diptrace.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13214 Although there is a way to do this it's not very straightforward. Diptrace makes it easy to insert shapes, text, or pictures on a...

Re: How to put the trademark symbol on silk layer

Hi Tom-
I appreciate the solution (and even the .ASC upload!!!). That worked fine and has solved the problem.
Now I'm going to have to add something to my wish list for Diptrace- I addition to place shape, text, and picture, I'd like to have a SYMBOL option.

Thanks for the solution!

Re: How to put the trademark symbol on silk layer

Hi Octal-
Good to hear from you. It's been a LONG time...
Thanks for the suggestion, but I can't get it to work. I carefully followed your instructions, but when I do Ctrl-V I always get a dash instead of the symbol I copied. don't know what's wrong. I'll fiddle with it more tomorrow.

If you go to https://pcbshopper.com you can quickly compare the cost between 23 PCB manufacturers.

Re: How to put the trademark symbol on silk layer

Thanks. That is the "workaround" that I am using. Surely there is a way to place a symbol without having to make a graphic file first.

How to put the trademark symbol on silk layer

I need to put the registered trademark symbol ("R" in a circle) on the silkscreen for a PCB, but aside from making a small image file I can't find a way to do it. It's usually ALT+0176, but that doesn't seem to work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: 3D render VERY slow for one particular board

Thanks, Tom- Rather than delete the components one at a time (there are more than 200 of them), I sorted to STEP files in my user directory by size, and was surprised to find three files that are unnecessarily large: A C&K KSL series tact switch, Coilcraft SER2918 inductor, and a Panasonic EEC serie...

Re: 3D render VERY slow for one particular board

By the way, when I first click on "3D", I see the usual status messages that pop up in the area where the 3D image will appear, but after a few seconds the messages go away and the area where the images appear will be totally blank for 1 or 2 minutes at a time. Is that a clue?

3D render VERY slow for one particular board

3D rendering works great for almost all of the boards I've done- except for one. This board is not huge- it measures 225mm x 171mm and has 228 components on it. For most of the layouts I do the 3D render takes only a few seconds, but this one takes more than 5 minutes. Once it is rendered it is VERY...

Re: Fetch a part in PCB layout

Thanks Friesen- that would also be a good way to do it.

For the lucky people who have a hugely powerful computer, drag and drop is fine- but when you've got an underpowered machine and you're working on a really big layout, all that panning takes forever.
