Any idea where to find component and pattern for 7-pin tube

#1 Post by iamjohngalt » 18 Oct 2021, 03:37

I'm anxious to use DipTrace to design an audio board that uses a 7-pin tube
(6Z4) for rectification.
I don't see any component or pattern for this in DipTrace, nor have I been
able to find one in the shared libraries.
Web searches have not been very helpful either.
The socket part that I find online is https://tubedepot.com/products/7-pin-pc-mount-socket
but I do not find a spec sheet for that part.

I'd appreciate assistance finding component and pattern that can be used or
imported into DipTrace for this socket and tube.

Thanks!

6Z4 is 5 pin: https://www.radiomuseum.org/images/tube ... in/6z4.png
but
https://ebay.to/3n4r69L

This tube was created in 1935
no, mouser or digikey have nothing. Most sockets I found are chassis mount with the exception of the one above from ebay, to make the pattern and component would only take a few minutes once you have the part in hand.

Search
5 pin tube socket 6z4 uy-base
on ebay

Sorry for the confusion KevinA, but the tube I am referring to is the Chinese 6Z4, not the US 6Z4 from the 30's.

The Russian 6C4P-EV is one equivalent tube for the Chinese 6Z4.

Can anyone provide a component and pattern for such a 7-pin tube/socket to use in DipTrace?
Are there any other sources of such that can be imported into DipTrace?
I have never created any and this is my first project with DipTrace.

If you buy the socket you can measure two pins across from each other, that is the diameter, measure a pin width and thickness where it will rest on the PCB, with those three measurements the pattern and component can be built. You could just use a round pad with a hole the width of a pin but I'd use an obround pad. In the time you've spent posting about this you could have created the pattern and component but you need the actual part to get the measurements.

KevinA: "...you need the actual part to get the measurements..."
Indeed. I found a couple of "dimensional" drawings during a quick online search...

These drawings may not be accurate, which is why KevinA recommends having the actual part in hand. After measuring you might end up with a pattern that looks similar to the following...

I based this pattern on the "B7G" drawing (above) and added larger silkscreen and courtyard circles to allow room for the tube body and some air space from other components. All dimensions and pin numbers are guestimates.

I can use TurboCAD to draw the socket with OBround pins that have the correct angle but I haven't figured out DT: On pins 2 and 6 it is(?) 136 degrees and pins 7 and 3 it is 90 degrees but what is pin 4?

The 18mm is a guess, I learned to NEVER use drawings from China, always measure the part after I had to redo a run because a USB connector didn't "fit" the drawing.

It was created exclusively in the pattern editor using the "Circle" style with eight pads (deleted one pad after the pattern was in place), "Radius" setting and magic numbers of "135" and "45" for the odd pad angles.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been away on another pressing project, but thank you to both Tomg and KevinA for your research and assistance.
I am working on doing the drawing from the part that I have in hand.
