How to place a background bitmap to trace board layout?

#1 Post by NearFarMedia » 01 Oct 2020, 06:00

I'm often finding myself reproducing old PCB's for repairs and additions to old test equipment, and to get them as similar to the original design, I'd like to insert a bitmap image of the original PCB so I can trace over it so component locations and traces are the same once I have converted the schematic to a layout.

Is it possible to do this somehow? I have found the function to insert a vectorised bitmap into the board layers, but not insert an image simply as a background to the workspace.

Have you tried placing the image on the Assembly layer?

Yeah, it seems no matter what layer I choose, it wants to do the black and white vector thing. I can't seem to place any picture in the work area as-is.

This worked fine in the lasts v3.x DT version, and I really wish it would be corrected as I also used it for replicating older PCBs as well as confirming the schematic matches the PCB.
