TITLEBLOCKS

#1 Post by Weedj123 » 11 Dec 2015, 04:32

Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to make a titleblock for pcb artwork?

It is a painful process because there are no drawing tools. You have to specify column widths and row heights, figure out how to divide various columns to line up or offset with the columns on other rows, deal with some missing system variables, define text blocks, combine/merge text blocks,...

...Sorry. There goes my blood pressure. Taking a few deep breaths now...

Well, it ain't pretty, but here's how to get started. Good luck with all of the previously-mentioned blood-pressure-raising "features"...

Yeah. This is one area where Proteus (and even EAGLE) is superior to DipTrace.

DipTrace needs to clean up this part of the software...
1) Allow the user to draw the Title Block using real lines.
2) Add more system variables like FileModDate, FileModTime, TotalPages, etc. I can't even remember the two that it actually has because I can't access my custom Title Block design anymore due to the last upgrade.
3) There's another beef - let us save our own custom Title Blocks in a windows-logical fashion. Don't throw it in with the other standard designs and then blow it away with a software update.

After an initial attempt to create a title block using the standard DipTrace methods, I abandoned the effort and constructed one by using the Place Tables command in the schematic editor to place a collection of cells in the configuration I needed. Inside each cell I added a single line of text and then grouped everything together. I copy and paste that group to each new schematic and then edit the individual text entities.

I think at one time I saw a post from DipTrace here in the forum that they were planning on improving the title block creation process.

That's a nice workaround. I did something similar by creating schematic "template" files with different paper sizes using the line drawing tools. I have to copy the template to additional pages, too. Unfortunately, I can't use the only two available system variables in these templates. I hope the DipTrace team will be getting back to fixing the basics after completing the Differential Pairs tool.

Thanks, I did the same thing.

I actually used the drawing tools, as Tomg did, primarily the rectangle tool, to create my title block. Why I thought I used the place table tool, I dunno. I created the title block about a year ago but still, I should be more precise in my postings.
