Hi all,
Working with DipTrace 4.0 new libraries. I noticed each discrete chip cap/resistor size has several footprints available. They seem to vary in tolerance size (larger footprint for more tolerance on component placement).
An example of the naming scheme:
A 1206 capacitor has the following footprints available in the DipTrace 4.0 standard patterns library (under "Cap Chip Inch"):
- CAP_1206_M
- CAP_1206_N
- CAP_1206_L
What do the various "M", "N", and "L" suffixes officially mean?

The short answer - component density levels as dictated by the amount of land pattern protrusion: Least, Nominal & Most.
"Least" is capable of allowing the highest component density at the possible cost of mechanical durability, and "Most" is capable of allowing more durable mechanical connections at the cost of lower component density.
