Newbie Question on Component Selection

#1 Post by WA2SQQ » 05 Sep 2018, 14:20

I’ve just started using Diptrace for my 1st project. If I select a generic part, let’s say a capacitor (disc) how do I determine the lead spacing and the default hole sizes that the generic component will use? I guess I’m asking how do I decipher the numeric data that each component offers? And regarding capacitors, is there a generic part, for a disc cap (where no polarity is indicated). Same issue when I’m using electrolytic caps – lead spacing?

Here's a document showing how to decipher DipTrace pattern names - https://diptrace.com/books/Pattern_names_help.pdf
