When connecting to a device pin I notices the autorouter seems to have an aversion to just making a straight connection when coming in perpendicular to the device pin. Instead it will create s meander which uses additional space and clutters the layout. This may be connected to this issue:

I can of course manually straighten out (remove) the meander, but this is a lot of additional work and also runs into the snap-to-grid issue mentioned on above referenced topic.

Software insists on creating wires on grid. If you connect a wire to off grid pins, small meanders may be created. Please try hot key M to change route mode from manual to automatic, it should change route behavior.
