Aligning net names

#1 Post by Mux » 24 Aug 2012, 23:45

Apologies if this has been posted before but is there a way to align net names? There doesn't seem to be a 'snap-to-grid' for labels and they don't seem to respect snap settings either, which means that they end up all somewhat misaligned..

I don't think there's a direct way to do it. What I do when a bunch of (say) horizontal net lines have horizontally-displayed names that should be left-aligned with respect to each other is
  • draw a vertical line L from above the first of the net lines in question to below the last;
  • toggle the grid off;
  • one at a time, drag the net names so that each little lower-left anchor square abuts the net line and my line L; and finally
  • delete L.
It's irritating to have to go through this routine with no support from the system, but it really doesn't, I have to admit, take all that much time to do.

Leave the grid turned on and change it to 1/4 of what it was (approximately).

Just a few clicks of the mouse wheel to zoom in and you can now drag the names into good alignment, accuracy limited only by your grid size.
