How do you move components from top to bottom of board

#1 Post by vincei » 04 Nov 2018, 07:38

How do you move components from top to bottom of board or vice versa. Eagle has a mirror component button that moves a component to the other side of the board. What is the DipTrace equivalent ?

Right click on the component and select "Change Side" from the context menu that pops up.

Thank you! I was hovering my mouse over the component pads and that menu item was not showing. Right clicking over the component identifier shows the menu item.

Quick question though - I have a SMD (SOIC16) and when I move it to the bottom, the pads are incorrect. It seems to just "push" the pads to the other side, so 1 is top right, not top left. How do I get the pads to be the correct way around (also the U1 is mirrored as well)?

Quick answer:
From the Top side you have a glass-like through-look to the bottom. It seems the parts are mirrored and indeed they are if
you look from the top on your PCB and imagine to see the bottom side with x-ray eyes. If you like you can push "M" to mirror
the Bottom side (or even the Top side ... if desired)

Thanks, however I’d expect it to look the correct way when I swap to viewing the bottom layer which it does not do. Am I missing something or do I just have to mirror?

As I said, in regular mode you always have an xray look on the the top. This means, the TOP look right for you and the bottom mirrored. "Swapping" to bottom ("B") does not swap anything. It only eleminates the TOP level to give you a free look to the (mirrored) bottom.
And then, if you like, you can push M = mirror, which in case of the bottom means an un-mirrored look....

As a side note, hotkey "M" is the default DipTrace assignment for Change Mode and the Mirror hotkey is not normally defined. You will have to assign a Mirror hotkey as follows...
1) Click on "Tools" in the Main Menu and select "Hotkey Settings..." in the drop-down menu to bring up the Hotkey Settings dialog window.
2) In the Hotkey Settings dialog window scroll down to the section labeled "View", enter your preferred hotkey for "Mirror" and click on "OK".

Thank you Tomg, my fault.
I was trapped by my own long-lasting configuration .... indeed M is not generel but mine Hotkey.
