YES! That worked fine. Thank you for the suggestion. ...but it got me thinking- if your solution worked and Octal's didn't, what is different? I went back and checked, and if I call up the character map (CHARMAP), select the character, copy and then use alt+V to paste it, I get garbage, but if I type alt+0176 it works fine.
Anyway, now I've got multiple solutions.

It always worked for me, even using Symbol and other Wingdings fonts ...
Rick, in charmap you don't just select the char, you have to double click on it, it should show in the small text box at the bottom of the window, and then you can click on copy button (Ctrl+C doesn't work).

btw. I'm still using v2.9

Double-checked everything, still not working, but since Alt+0176 works, I'm good.
Probably just something screwed up on my computer.
