Components database

#1 Post by CrisB » 07 Nov 2018, 10:41

It will be great to have an integration with Octopart or such a database.
This will make our lives mutch easyer by simplyfing the BOM export and order components for proto production.

Thank you for the suggestion. We plan to add additional field with Digikey number for all components in standard libraries.

Instead of spending time adding a single vendor please Embed Python:
https://docs.python.org/2/extending/embedding.html
Allowing
https://octopart.com/api/docs/v3/bom-quickstart
to be used...
By adding scripting to DipTrace you expand what your product can be
Altium (DelphiScript), KiCad (Python), Mentor Graphics' PADS (Python), Allegro® PCB Designer (Skill (LISP like)), AutoDesk Eagle (What ever)

This will be the best option.
Only one vendor, Digikey, will make no difference, for me at least. I am using different vendors at the same time. And at least Digikey :-)

Yes, I agree with the partners. Digikey is pointless at least for me too. Octopart would be great or even scripting...

The beauty of Octopart is that is will obtain quotes from multiple vendors. This allows for the selection of the best supplier based on availability, quantity, delivery time, etc. So if you have to choose only one provider to link to, it should be Octopart or SamacSys.com (http://componentsearchengine.com). The latter is a better source of 2D drawings ("footprints" or "patterns" for both schematics and PCB layout) and 3D models (both eCAD and other formats).

+100 for an octopart integration ! I konw they will charge Novarm for the number of inquiries/month ! I asked them to get an API KEY for some python utilities...but its like 25$ for <1000 API inquiries / month.
But their must be a way to get Octopart integration without having to increase Diptrace prices.

After all BOMIST have it !! So, I think Octopart in Diptrace is more that possible. ANd these days its definitely a must.

I see that Altium purchased Octopart wholly in 2015.

It would be a shame if DipTrace users were helping to push up Altium's profits.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octopart

I have an Altium license but prefer to use DipTrace day in & day out.

I do not like Altium the company & I would not be in favour of Novarm contributing to their competitors profits.

Didn't know about that ! However, I use Altium at my job... And I don't like that ''heavy weight hyper configurable'' soft.
I prefer Diptrace ;) !!

However, knowing that fact then Digikey API would be fine !! Fuck Altium ;)
