Variants support in schematic.

#1 Post by SoundMod » 04 Jul 2020, 11:19

Hi there,

I think that a great features would be to get support for BOM ''variants'' in the schematic.
That simply means, one PCB which can have one or many BOM variants.

The great things about variants is that you all have them in the same schematic files and you don't have to have multiple copy of the same schematic with the different value for each variants.

If you select variants #1 then the value and the components being not mounted will be updated on the schematic. If you select variants #2, then the schematic is updated accordingly.

Hi SoundMOD

Great suggestion, it really works well as you mentioned when you have master(fully populated board) and then different variants asymmetric/half populated etc.
This feature should work well in synchronisation mode, between forward/back annotation,so you can transfer variants between schematic and PCB. With simple circuit
you may end up doing PCB and schematic independently and synchronise it at later stage.

Hi Tim2020,

I hope will we get that feature in the future. IMHO, Having multiple assembly managed into a single schematic and pcb file would reduce the chance to makes mistake.
