copy paste pcb-layout respecting grid

#1 Post by Moris » 27 Apr 2020, 05:57

When copying a pcb-layout and pasting in another *.dip file, then it should be placed on grid (e.g. with respect to design origin of the source file).
One application: Put multiple pcb-layouts on one panel for pcb production and assembly (x,y).

May be the most simple solution would be to insert the copied layout in the (target) file without changes in the coordinates.
This way we could set the origin in the source to the wanted value, copy it and paste in target.

PCB editor 4.0.0.5 example: all from source.dip (on grid) is copied and pasted to drain.dip where it gets off grid.
Use case: Copy multiple designs in one panel pcb .

Problem: This will make everybody looking at the design and the resulting gerber and drill files asking - why is a part of the panel off grid?
Further it may lead to a greater than necessary outline of the panel pcb. E.g. a 60x70mm design together with a 70x80mm off gird design results in an 140.ab x 70.xy mm panel. an and xy are random digits.
