3D Visualization stuck in loop while loading components
Re: 3D Visualization stuck in loop while loading components
Are you sure you've got the latest version? Please open Help -> About and make sure. The reason of asking is that we experienced the problem in older versions but all known problems with STEP export should be fixed in the latest.
Re: 3D Visualization stuck in loop while loading components
FYI - I just experienced the same issue with version 4.2.0.1. Stuck, had to get out of the whole program using task mgr.
Re: 3D Visualization stuck in loop while loading components
We need the additional info to reproduce this issue:
- send a ".dip" file and the non-standard 3D model files which used in your design
- OS version, 32 or 64bit
- DipTrace version, 32 or 64bit

Re: 3D Visualization stuck in loop while loading components
Same problem with 4.3.0.4, the current version. Many times when I try to open the 3D view, it hangs "searching 3D components". All the libraries and program on on a local SSD drive. Sometimes I can just exit the program and start to fix it. Other times I have to move some components around and save the file, then exit and restart. This has been going on for many releases, maybe it's time to fix it?
Re: 3D Visualization stuck in loop while loading components
I can also confirm that the problem persists with 4.3.0.4.
Some details from my experiences:
Some details from my experiences:
- Problem occurs randomly on Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 11 Professional (64-bit OS and DipTrace).
- Problem occurs regardless of library search folder settings.
- Problem occurs regardless of external model location (local, network drive, etc.) and accessibility of that location.
- Problem occurs even when there are no external 3D models at all (as a test, I deleted every custom model except IPC-7351 automatic ones).
- Opening Tools > 3D Preview > 3D Visualization hangs with the attached dialog box visible. This occurs even when everything is already configured and there are no models to search. "Skip" is sometimes clickable, and if clicked fully cancels the entire visualization rather than simply proceeding without searching models.
- Opening the 3D Model Search window manually (via Tools > 3D Preview > Pattern and Model Search, then Search 3D Models) works fine even if the actual visualization does not.
- Copy-pasting the entire board to a new blank PCB Layout document fixes the problem without touching any other settings, regardless of external models.

Re: 3D Visualization stuck in loop while loading components
It's not fixed in the 4.3.0.4 January 18, 2023. Windows 10 Home. My usual cure is to exit the program and start it up again. That works about 90% of the time. If it were STEP export, it wouldn't work by simply restarting the program, perhaps you should look in a different place? If restarting the program doesn't work, then I edit the board with a simple edit and then move it back to get it's attention. Hard to believe this has anything to do with the actual STEP files.

It appears that nobody actually reads about these bugs, nary a comment from anyone that could possibly make a move to fix this long-standing bug.

I believe all posts are being read, but they can be forgiven for being preoccupied with trying to stay alive.

We read this and other topics.gunrunnerjohn wrote: ↑11 Jun 2023, 02:25 It appears that nobody actually reads about these bugs, nary a comment from anyone that could possibly make a move to fix this long-standing bug.
We can fix a bug if it is reproducible. Unfortunately, we can't reproduce it therefore it is difficult to find a reason of the problem and fix it. In addition, operation system, 3D model files location, hardware, videodrivers may affect the issue but they are different between us and users. Also notice, the problem occurs randomly that adds difficulties for the debugging.
Anyway, you can send your board file and custom 3D models if any are used on the board for verification. We will try to reproduce the problem.
