Pop/depop of components on the shematic

#1 Post by allwires » 07 Jul 2014, 20:50

Is there any built in support of marking components as pop/depop on the schematic? With fast design cycles, sometimes it is necessary to put in alternative circuits/connections that can be selectively populated.

I've though about making a custom property to do this; if I do that, there is no way to display it on the schematic because I already need to show other properties such as refdes and part number or value.

Can you change the value to "DNP"? That will propagate to the BOM. The BOM is where I control different versions of the assembly.

Many years late, but in time when someone who needs this info finds it:

In Diptrace Layout:

File > Export > Bill of Materials...

You'll see "Assembly Variant" with a dropdown menu and a button with "..."

Clicking the button "...", will bring up a window that let's you add variants. You can uncheck any components you don't to be exported in the BOM.

Because we have a team doing SMD and a different team doing THT, I create two variants, one for SMD and one for THT. And of course the components that don't make sense to populate, i.e. fiduciary marks or programming headers, are unchecked for both SMD and THT.

I hope my attempt to give back to the community reaches someone in need.
