Stackable PCBs using SMD Headers

I'm trying to stack 3-4 PCBS on top of each other using SMD headers. (Dual row 4 position SMD headers. 8 connections total)

The SMD headers will be on the opposite layer from each other. In the same position on the PCB. How do I connect from the top layer to the bottom layer? I was considering static vias in SMD pads. But do I still have to place ratlines and run the auto router?

You can place a male header on the bottom side of one board and a female receptacle on the top layer of another board. Or opposite. Just make sure the male and female headers fit each other.

To connect stacked PCBs using SMD headers, you can place static vias in the SMD pads directly. Assign the vias to the appropriate nets without needing ratlines. Just ensure the vias are correctly positioned and sized for reliable solder joints. No need for the autorouter if all connections are manually verified.

Static vias can be inserted straight into the SMD pads to facilitate vertical connections when use dual row SMD headers to join stacked PCBs. For proper PCB manufacture, check that the vias are of the right size. The paths that each SMD pad takes to reach its matching via? If there are no particular trace constraints, you can run the autorouter without manually placing ratlines.
