Export NC Drill Unit Issue

#1 Post by Jeremiah » 17 Dec 2024, 20:58

The Export NC Drill is not converting between Inches and Metric correctly. It will export correctly when the layout is in Inches and the drill files get exported in Inches. When the layout is in Inches, exporting the drill files to Metric result in incorrect files. Here is a picture with both Inches and Metric overlayed:

You can see in the picture that the Metric one is ultra small. This issue is present in 5.1.0.0 and 5.1.0.1. It happens using Export NC Drill and also when exporting Gerbers + NC Drill.

DipTrace exports drill data in millimeters in format 4:2 ( number of digits before and after decimal points). That means Gerber viewers should use the same format when importing drill data. But they often use format 3:3 for drill data in millimeters by default. See an example.

Therefore you need to adjust data format prior importing NC drill file in your viewer. Otherwise, the scale of drill drawing will be wrong.
BTW, we consider an option for customizing data format when exporting NC drill from DipTrace.

Thank you for the explanation. Yes, and option to customize this would be great since DipTrace is 4:2.
