Can I independently modify paste mask length and width for better solder control?

#1 Post by andesitedull » 14 Oct 2025, 04:29

I’m working on a PCB design where fine-tuning the paste mask opening is crucial. Is it feasible to adjust the length and breadth separately rather than using a uniform expansion? Any step-by-step instructions or documentation would be greatly appreciated to help optimize solder paste application and avoid bridging or insufficient solder.

DipTrace does not currently allow independent X/Y paste mask adjustments per pad — only uniform expansion. For asymmetric openings, you’ll need to use custom shapes.
In the Pattern Editor:
1) In the pad’s context menu, select “Paste/Mask Settings.”
2) For Paste Mask, choose “No Solder” from the drop-down list.
3) Now, instead of the Paste Mask that was disabled for the pad, you need to create any shape of the desired size and form on the Paste Mask layer and place it in the pad area where you want the paste to appear.
