I have some suggestions for improving the way things are drawn when making component patterns. One of the most difficult things I find is getting the parts set out to accurate dimensions easily and quickly.
My job involves working with Autocad every day and for me it would be good if you had a few of the fundamental features that Autocad and other CAD programs have.
Moving and copying: It would be very useful to select an object, move the mouse to one side of it and then input a measurement via the keypad. This moves or copies the object a set distance from its original location on an orthogonal grid in the direction of the mouse.
As things are if I want to set two lines apart 12.2mm I would need to be in a grid of 0.2mm for it to snap to this, this is impossible to do by eye (as there are too many dots) so I end up changing the grid size several times or putting in a temporary dimension or other roundabout way to accomplish what should be a simple task.
One very useful command would be OFFSET where you have a line and you want another line a set distance from it which you input via the keypad. This would allow a few construction lines to be quickly and accurately set up from which the component could be drawn without having to zoom in and out, change grid sizes and dimension things to see if you got it right.
I’m not sure if this sort of thing would be easy to implement but it would be a big improvement for me.
